Field day on “IFS for livelihood improvement of tribal farmers in hilly ecosystem” was organized at Agroforestry field
in Division of System Research and Engineering (DSRE), ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Umiam, Meghalaya during 22nd January, 2025 under the project Development of
Watershed based Integrated Farming Systems (IFS) for sustainable livelihood of tribal farmers of Meghalaya under Tribal Sub Plan (TSP) project. A total of 62 participants
(17 males and 45 females) from Nongtraw, Bangla, Lumdiengngan, and Lumdaitkhla villages of Ri-Bhoi district participated in the field day programme. The programme was organised
to sensitize the tribal farming community and to highlight the importance of integrated farming systems and its role in hilly ecosystem. Dr. S. Hazarika, Pr. Scientist and Head DSRE
and Nodal Officer of TSP addressed the programme.
The programme consists of interactive sessions with the scientists; visit to established integrated farming systems (IFS) within the
institute and input distribution to the participants. The experts present during the programme were Dr. Ramesh T, Dr. H.D. Talang, Dr. N. Raju Singh, Dr. Rahul Katyar, Dr. Christy B.K. Sangma,
Dr. S. Gojendro, Dr. Mahasweta Chakraborty, Dr. A. Balusamy, and 7 project staffs.
